Reflective Paint for Safety Applications

A safety paint that Reflects light back towards the light source.
Used for safety and attention grabbing applications where vehicle lights, torches or headlamps will shine onto it.

It should be used in dark areas where light will be reflected back towards the source of the light. It is thus perfect for vehicle drivers to see when their car lights shine onto it or for individuals to see when their headlamp shines onto it. When normal light shines onto the paint at night it reflects a silver-white color back to the light source. For visibility by vehicle drivers we suggest that the paint is applied close to the road and at a height between vehicle headlamp and drivers eye height. It will not work on signs that are not in the direct path of the vehicle headlamps.

This paint is fairly transparent so the color behind the paint is the color you will see during the day. Paint the surface first with the color of your choice (use a good quality acrylic/PVA paint). We suggest using our Reflective Paint over white or bright colors. Avoid dark colors. Bright colours in our Arts, Crafts & Fabric Paint range work well and for high day visibility we especially recommend Bright Yellow, Lime Green, Cerise Pink & Blaze Orange.

From experience we know that people want to shine lights onto it and expect everybody below to see a spectacular effect. Remember the light is reflected back towards the light source so unless people are very close to the light source (such as the driver of a vehicle or the bearer of a torch) they will not see the effect. Even worse, some people think this paint will glow-in-the-dark. Glow-in-the-dark paint is a totally different product that we manufacture.

A very legitimate question is; "Should I use Reflective Paint or Reflective Tape?" Our Reflective Paint is better than tape in the following circumstances: to cover large areas, for use on uneven surfaces where tape may not stick and for shapes that are hard to archive with tape (including letters and numbers).

Keep out of reach of children
All our products should be kept out of reach of children under 5 years and anybody who may tend to place items or liquids in their mouths should be supervised. Even packing can become a choking hazard.

Prepare and Prime surfaces as for normal acrylic paint. If in doubt contact us or see Preparation and Priming on the Technical Page of this website.
Preferably Paint Reflective Paint over easy to see colors such as white, bright colors or light colors. It does not work as well on dark colors and avoid painting onto black.
One important thing to be aware of is that most primers are not UV resistant and thus get damaged by sunlight. As our Reflective Paint is clear it does not protect primers from the sun's UV rays. If you use a primer we suggests that you paint over it with an acrylic paint color of your choice to protect it from UV light.
