Silicone Coaster Moulds used with Epoxy Resin
Our Coaster Moulds have a depth of approximately 5mm.
You should not use a release agent when using resin in our clear or green silicone moulds. Our Coaster Moulds are all clear or green silicone so no release agent is required and the cured resin will automatically have a glossy finish. (Note that our pink moulds are a different quality silicone and the use of our Liquid Wax Release Agent is suggested for them.)
Mix your resin and pour it into the mould. Prior to pouring the resin you can add suitable pigments and colourants and you can use multiple resin layers if required. Our Geode mould is perfect for making designs with our crystals and stones. Carefully use a torch to pop any bubbles if required but take care not to damage the mould. The best resin to use in these moulds is Kristal Diamond 6 and as it is a high flow resin you should not experience air problems. Keep the mould on a flat surface in a protected area that is free from insects and dust while the resin cures. Only remove the resin casting from the mould once it is hard.
Coaster Heat Resistance
The resin we recommend for these coaster moulds is our Counter Top & Shallow Casting Epoxy Resin. It is very hard (Shore D Hardness = 90) and scratch resistant. This resin can withstand temperatures up to 80oC but should be left to cure for at least a week before subjecting it to high temperatures. 80oC is just sufficient for coasters because even if the base of the cup is slightly over 80oC it does not distort or mark the resin as the cup is not heavy. Nevertheless, completely clear coasters are not recommended as some mild marking may become visible. Coloured resin with pigments is unlikely to show visible markings from hot cups and our tests with this resin gave positive results.
