What you need to know about application

When painting a large area such as a feature wall, it is important that the painter knows how to work with glossy water based paints. They must start on one side or corner (not in the middle) and keep a wet edge. To assist keeping a wet edge do not paint in direct sunlight and apply primer or undercoat to porous surfaces. When painting large surfaces such as walls, a second painter is useful to do the cutting-in and the person with the roller must go over as much of the cut-in area as possible while it is still wet. Roller movements should be up and down or left to right but not both and not diagonal or haphazard.

For brush and roller applications the paint can usually be used as supplied but dilution with 8-10% water can be used to eliminate all brush and roller marks on very smooth surfaces. The paint can also be thinned (viscosity reduced) using our Acrylic Flow Control Medium. If you use this Medium the paint will be thinned but will still not give roller spray.

For air-spaying the paint can be diluted with 14% water (140g water per 1 litre of paint). Our Acrylic Airbrush Medium is perfect for spay applications that require paint with a very high flow. This Medium dramatically thins the paint for spraying without any detrimental effects.

There are two simple and useful pdf document that can be quickly downloaded from the Technical Page of this website. One is called "Painting Tips for Metallics". We  suggest that you read it if you intend to paint a feature wall, require a perfect finish free from brush or roller marks or want to the apply the paint with air-spray equipment. If you want to paint wooden furniture there is a pdf document called "Painting Furniture with Metallic Paints".

Appearance can be influenced by the light

The appearance of metallic paints can change as the viewing angle changes and as lighting changes. We have optimised the orientation behaviour of the metallic pigments during the drying process which significantly reduces this tendency and makes it easy to get a uniform finish.
