Purpurite Rough Stones
- Stones with significant amounts of beautiful iridescent purple purpurite mineral.
- Purpurite has a granular crystal structure so no crystal shape is evident.
Randomly shaped stones made up significantly or predominantly of purpurite crystals. Purpurite crystals are granular so there is no visible characteristic crystal shape. The best description is that the purpurite crystals impart a beautiful iridescent purple colour to significant sections of what would otherwise be boring stones. Other minerals are also present in each stone so don't expect a uniform purple colour. In the light the iridescent purple is possibly one of nature's most dramatic and stunning colours.
Purpurite is a mineral, manganese phosphate, MnPO4 with varying amounts of iron depending upon its source. It occurs in colour ranges from brownish black via purple and violet to dark red. In these stones the purpurite is predominantly iridescent purple.
