- Stones with significant amounts of purpurite mineral.
- Purpurite is beautiful, striking iridescent purple.
Purpurite Unprocessed Stones
Purpurite is a mineral, manganese phosphate, MnPO4 with varying amounts of iron depending upon its source. It occurs in colour ranges from brownish black via purple and violet to dark red. In these stones the purpurite is predominantly iridescent purple.
Description of these Purpurite Unprocessed Stones
Randomly shaped stones that contain purpurite crystals. Purpurite crystals are granular so there is no visible characteristic crystal shape. The best description is that the purpurite crystals impart a beautiful iridescent purple colour to some sections sections of what would otherwise be normal stones. Other minerals are also present in each stone so don't expect a uniform purple colour. In the light, the iridescent purple is possibly one of nature's most dramatic and stunning colours.
Resin brings out the colour beautifully so consider encapsulating them with a fairly thick (lower flow) resin or including them in a deep resin casting.
