Azurite Rough Stones
- Nodular stones with abstract shapes that vary from rich blue (azurite) to green-blue (malachite).
- Wonderful intergrowths of azurite and malachite crystalline minerals.
Azurite Unprocessed Stones
Azurite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral with a chemical composition of Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2. It is best known for its characteristic blue color that results from the inclusion of Copper in the mineral. Well shaped crystals of azurite do exist but sell for thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. In these stones the azurite crystals are granular and do not show any crystal shape.
Description of these Azurite Unprocessed Stones
Abstractly shaped nodular stones that vary from rich blue to green-blue (malachite colour). Some stones are almost completely rich blue but most have patches of rich blue and patches of green-blue as well as patches of light coloured impurities. The green-blue coloured sections are actually malachite. Both malachite and azurite form under similar conditions and when they are intergrown the material is called azurmalachite. The colour of the stones is dramatically highlighted when the stones are wet or when they are coated in a clear resin.
