Deep Silver Aluminium Paste for water-based systems
This powdered aluminium has been blended into water to form a very thick paste. The paste is so thick that force has to be applied to cut it with a knife. As supplied, the pigment will appear to be a mixture of small and large granules. The granules consist of 70% aluminium powder and 30% water by mass.
The pigment has been surface coated to make it compatible with water-based paints. It cannot be used in resins due its water content. The advantage of suppling it pre-blended with water is that there is no dust generation during use.
It creates a metallic deep silver effect that can never be achieved with pearlescent pigments. In paints it creates excellent opacity due to its very small particle size.
Including this pigment into paints
We utilise this pigment in many of our metallic paints. You will have to blend it (or work it) into paint by pressing it. In a small container it can be worked in by pressing it with the back of a teaspoon for example. It takes some effort to mix in this pigment. It cannot be simply stirred into paint and it cannot be mixed fast as this will damage its coating and the exposed aluminium will then react with water.
It is stable during storage in our metallic paints due to the special chemistry employed in the paints. If you add it to normal paints you should use the paint the same day.
The pay-back for your effort is a low cost metallic silver paint with excellent hiding powder and real metal appearance.
